The emperors and the Popes didn’t live there. They lived here — in the hills just south of the city. This is where Roman power, faith, food and tradition truly lived. And still live.
I was born in Frascati, and this is still my home. Out here in the Castelli, we cook like our nonnas did, drink wine from our own vineyards, and eat meals where the recipes haven’t changed in generations.
While central Rome became a stage for tourists — with chefs from other countries and menus made for photos — we’ve kept the real thing. Our villages, our amphitheaters, our sacred gardens and hills still look like they did centuries ago. And yes, the food still tastes like it did when emperors walked these roads.
I’m not a guide. I don’t work for an agency. I’m just a Roman who opens his door — and his kitchen — to couples, families and small groups who want to feel something honest and alive.
